Dry Ecosystems Network

Dry Ecosystems Network

The Dry Ecosystems Network (DEN) was established in the spring of 2025 as an initiative of the BC Conservation Foundation Kamloops office. Its main objective is monitoring and habitat enhancement in the drought-affected ecosystems of BC’s southern interior.

The program combines various seasonal projects throughout the year which have the common objectives of DEN, in collaboration with other conservation partners in the Thompson-Nicola region and a shared team of technicians and biologists.

DEN projects include species-at-risk monitoring (e.g. snakes, spadefoot, bats), sampling lakes for invasive mussels, and wetland habitat restoration. Our aim is to grow our conservation capacity in a region affected by severe drought, wildfires, and threats from human expansion into sensitive habitats. Through this capacity, we will be better positioned to create effective partnerships and key employment opportunities to address the unique challenges within dry ecosystems.

Get Involved

We hope to partner with more like-minded organizations over the coming years and establish longer-term projects. If you would like to contribute to the program, please consider donating through our website donation page. Donations will go toward project development to grow DEN’s sustainability to carry out conservation work. To discuss partnerships or project ideas, please contact Allen Wootton, Regional Coordinator/Conservation Ecologist, at awootton@bccf.com
