In 2007, BC Conservation Foundation granted $50,000 to the Land Conservancy of BC to purchase and manage 185 hectares in the Fort Shepherd Conservancy, located in the Western Kootenays near Trail, BC. The property features one of the last free-flowing sections of the Columbia River that hosts aquatic species such as White Sturgeon and Bull Trout.
Important wildlife habitat sites are found within this dry and warm biogeoclimatic subzone including Cedar and Hemlock. A combination of grasslands, dry forests, cliffs, caves, wildlife trees and dry rocky slopes provide excellent habitat and winter ranges for Elk, Mule Deer and White-Tailed Deer.
