BC Conservation Foundation granted $10,000 to the Nature Conservancy in 2009 to purchase and manage the Chase Woods Nature Reserve, consisting of 40.65 hectares.
The Reserve includes seven rare plant communities with a mix of coniferous and deciduous forests, including Douglas-Fir and Western Yew. Garry Oak and Arbutus Lodgepole Pine and Manzanita are found in abundance.
The cliffs provide nesting habitat for Turkey Vultures and Peregrine Falcons, while boulder fields at the base of the cliffs include numerous caves that provide homes for small mammals and birds of prey, such as owls.
A creek runs through the Reserve and provides habitat for Red-legged frogs, Rough-skinned Newts and other amphibians and a variety of waterfowl.
