BC Conservation Foundation granted $25,000 to the Southern Interior Land Trust and other partners to purchase the 16.6-hectare Bourguiba Spring property in 2022.

Lot 16 is ecologically significant at a provincial level, with its source of year-round groundwater spring, intact riparian vegetation and its intact habitat for species-at-risk. It is also an ideal corridor for wildlife movement between the southern BC interior and Washington State.

The area is home to sagebrush, bunchgrass and scattered pines, California bighorn sheep, mule deer, and habitat for at least 12 species-at-risk: including American Badger, Rattlesnake, Screech Owl and Half-moon Hairstreak Butterfly. The land supports habitat through its water source.
