What Students Are Saying
Recently, the Waste Reduction crew visited Mountain View Elementary School in Coquitlam, BC. Heres what some of the students had to say after participating in the workshop:
"The people of the world need to stop producing so much waste. One day there may not be enough natural resources to have life the way it is now. Can you imagine lying on the grass late at night staring at the sky, trying to spot the moon or the stars? It would be extremely hard. Especially with all that pollution. Also, think of the landfills. You could almost say that they take up far too much property of the Earth. Now slide over to the ozone layer. Without it we would be black and blue all over. Why cant we use the three Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle!"
"We can reduce the amount that goes in our landfills by buying things with less packaging. We can reuse our yogurt containers and plastic bags over and over again! Recycling is easy when you put juice boxes, newspapers, milk cartons and plastics in the recycling bin! You can also use your compost for grass clippings, leaves, and organic kitchen waste."
"I have three personal goals to help reduce waste. First, use both sides of a notebook. Second, I would like everyone to walk to school. Finally, I would like everyone to use reuseable containers, like sandwich containers."
